1 November 2012: Time Bandits

After a long pause (sorry!) I thought I would try something new and introduce a video element to the blog... So here is a (very amateur) video of me going through my latest discovery - the original continuity folder (script, polaroid photos & all) from Time Bandits (thank you Penny Eyles).  I hope you enjoy it.

* Frustrated at how small the video appears and it's not at all clear when you "full screen" it.  Please take this as a test & I'll see what I can do to improve it...

  1. Cool! The video reminds me of the hands rolling up the map at the end of the film actually.

Next time you might want to shoot it in landscape. It will probably look bigger then.

Thanks for these updates they're great! :D

  2. If you're hosting the video on youtube you can click the "Share" button and a new "Embed" button will appear. The html code will appear that you can copy and paste into the blog entry, and the pixel width and height of the image can be altered. I would suggest a width of 640 and height of 360.
Also, it looks like you're recording off of a smartphone. If you hold the phone at a 90 degree angle, when you upload the video it will fill the entire frame instead of looking like a vertical strip in the middle of the screen, which should also help enhance the image of whatever you're shooting.
    I hope that helps. :)

And as always, this is great. Thanks for sharing!

  3. I've been clearing out my own film animation archive the past couple of months, so it's nice to know I'm not the only person in London submerged in dust and several thousand sheets of drawings. Enjoying your great blog - keep digging away!

  5. Thank you so much for your efforts! I'm a fan of your father since my childhood. I remember my dad showing me Monty Python when i was about 5. I couldn't understand a word back then (i'm swiss) but i always just loved the animations! So i fast forwarded the VHS Cassettes to the cartoons. I haven't seen anything like it since. My dad was an animator and so i began making little cut out animations with his camera myself. I always admired Terry's drawing style and discovered Harvey Kurtzman's art through him which i just love. I'd very much love to see a book like "The Art of Terry Gilliam" full of his sketches and drawings!

  6. Just a quick question, would it be possible to see more of this, particularly the detailed notes?

I work in continuity myself, but it is always fascinating to see how others do it, especially on a film I grew up watching.

  7. Fringe had a wonderful homage to your dad's work on last weeks episode which was titled "Black Blotter". I thought you might like to see it!

Thanks so much for sharing all of these wonderful treasures with us. I have enjoyed going through all of it!
